ILEX Paralegal Certificate and Diploma programmes
These awards are designed for those who wish to operate in a support role as a paralegal within a legal office. They are offered at Certificate level which roughly equates to GCSE level and Diploma which roughly equates to A Level.
The Certificate programmes are offered in various subjects, but all have two common modules – The Legal Environment, which is a background to the English Legal System and how it operates today, and General Legal Principles – which cover all of the main areas of practice of many legal offices. Learners are then able to select from a range of specialist options, depending on where their interest lies. The options currently include:
Criminal Law
Conveyancing
Employment Law
Civil Litigation
Work of the Magistrates Court
Certificate programmes usually take between 6 and 9 months to complete.
The Diploma programmes are also offered in different subjects namely:
Employment Law
Civil Litigation
Welfare and Benefits
The programmes are assessed by means of assignments written by ILEX which are assessed in the Centre and then graded by ILEX.
Diploma programmes usually take between 15 and 18 months to complete.
Learners who achieve a Distinction in the Paralegal Awards are eligible for an exemption from the Portfolio element of the Professional Diploma in Law at Level 3, should they wish to proceed to this qualification.
