We have a variety of legal courses which we are able to offer to prospective students as a flexible learning route to becoming a fully qualified legal executive. Taking this route into the law sector allows students to qualify as a lawyer without incurring the high study fees which are synonymous with the traditional route of attending university, and also for those those wishing to qualify as a solicitor without completing the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA's) Legal Practice Course or Training Contract once further examinations have been completed.

What is a legal executive?

A legal executive is a qualified lawyer, who works under regulations of a professional body. The term 'legal executive' can only be assigned to a Fellow of the Institue of Legal Executives (ILEX).

Being a legal executive opens up numerous opportunities for you within a law firm, whether you are currently working at a company or are currently looking for work within the legal sector.  You could be a head of department or even a partner in the firm with a significant client following.   There is also the possibility of practicing law in a commercial organisation, charities, government agencies and local authorities.

How does being a legal executive differ from being a solicitor?

A legal executive will study to the same level as a solicitor, but the study area is not as broad.   As you progress through the ILEX route you will focus on fewer areas of law, resulting in you becoming a specialist in your chosen law subject, whether that be for example conveyancing, civil litigation or criminal law.

How will I benefit from the qualification?

The legal profession can be incredibly competitive, and difficult to get into.  With many people believing that you need a law degree to practice law. The ILEX route offers an alternative way in to the legal sector without the need to enrol on the expensive LPC (Legal Practice Course).

Currently not employed in the legal sector?

There is no need to be employed by a law firm in order to study for your ILEX qualifications with us at Professional Vocational Training.
